There are cases where the Device name may not be learned: This name is saved in the node table, and this name cannot be edited. Here are details in response to your inquiry: If a new LAN device is connected to the GW and requests for an IP via DHCP, the device posts its host name through option 12. Even if I could just do a static override this would be good enough for me, but for some reason that option is not available for this device. It should be showing up as "squeeze" - since this server holds all my media and acts as my internal development machine, it's important for me to be able to access it by name. * debian server, printer, boxeebox, and ubuntu-laptop are all active on the "windows network" (running samba on linux boxes) and show up with the correct name there, but only ubuntu-laptop and boxeebox show the correct name on the 4111n * iphone, android phone, and receiver show up with the correct name, despite not running any SMB/windows network software To be honest, the only device I really care about showing up right is the debian server. * tv, printer, and debian server all show up as "unknown" which is being generated by the 4111n.
